Meet Tom Hughes
At work
Tom has been a Financial Planner here at PenLife for over a decade.
He has worked in financial services for years, and having specialised in pensions, he has experienced many rule changes. Tom is, therefore, an expert in Defined Benefit, occupational and personal pensions; as well as their interaction with estate planning and tax planning.
Tom’s strength is being able to explain complex financial arrangements in a way that means people can understand what they have and what they can expect. Tom is passionate about ensuring people can make plans with confidence.
At home
Tom lives in York with his wife Elena and two children, Alessandro and Isabella, whom they try to tire out constantly with tennis, swimming, rambling in the countryside and searching for a good Sunday lunch!
In rare times of peace and tranquillity, Tom loves to read and really enjoys DIY.
The important stuff
All regulated financial advisers firms must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and therefore appear on their register. You can find PenLife’s entry here.
Furthermore, all advisers must have an up-to-date Statement of Professional Standing (SPS). This shows they are suitably qualified. You should be wary of any advisers who refuse to provide copies of their SPS. If you wish to see any copies, you can request this over the phone or via email using the information on the Contact Us page.
Ms Miller
Lifetime allowance protection
Ms Miller was an NHS doctor who simply didn’t have enough time to manage her finances on her own. She came to us for general financial planning, but it emerged that she had a serious Lifetime Allowance problem. It was then our job to help her strategically avoid this tax charge.
